Here at Canonsburg Dental Care, we’re known for the quality of our work. We strive to give our patients restorations that last, and a well-made, well-placed dental crown can last 20 to 30 years. That’s as close to permanent as dental treatment gets!

What are Crowns?

Dental crowns are tooth-shaped caps that cover a weakened tooth, helping to build up tooth strength while protecting it from damage. They’re very reliable for correcting the effects of major dental problems, like tooth trauma, gum disease, and normal wear and tear.

We offer crowns that are custom-made for you in either high-grade porcelain. We recommend porcelain and gold crowns for treating more extensive damage. This includes cases where teeth have broken away through excessive wear or as a result of old fillings breaking.

When Do You Need a Dental Crown?

Sometimes, people have unexplained pain from their back teeth, which is usually due to hairline cracks on the chewing surface of the tooth. Placing a crown on each of these teeth relieves that pain and restores their function.

In your front teeth, older fillings can both weaken the teeth and cause cosmetic issues, like staining or chipping. Porcelain crowns and bridges can be the ideal solution when porcelain veneers aren’t. Particularly for teeth that have undergone root canal therapy and fillings, crowns can prevent teeth from breaking.

The Procedure for Fitting a Dental Crown

Fitting a crown usually takes just two visits! First, we’ll remove any dental decay, shape the tooth, and fit it with a temporary crown of either plastic or metal.

On the second appointment, we’ll remove the temporary crown then fit and adjust the final crown. We’ll make sure the crown fits comfortably for you and that the bite is correct, and finally, we’ll cement the crown into place. By the end, you’ll have a beautifully restored tooth!
